Amec Foster Wheeler, which is planning to merge with rival engineer Wood Group subject to approval from the competition watchdog, has been awarded two framework contracts by the company which manages the UK鈥檚 lower level radioactive waste.

The engineer will provide hydrogeological and geological services and general technical support for one of the frameworks, plus analytical services and environmental monitoring support on the other deal.

LLW Repository operates the UK鈥檚 low level waste repository in Cumbria on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, and also oversees the management of lower activity waste throughout the country. The four-year frameworks are expected to generate revenue of 拢4m.

The deals follow win for Amec Foster Wheeler鈥檚 joint venture with Interserve, OneAim, to provide engineering support services at the Sellafield decommissioning site, also in Cumbria.

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently to settle thousands of asbestos-related claims. Most are in the US, and relate to the Foster Wheeler side of the business.

The engineering group is also waiting on the Competition and Markets Authority to rule on its proposed merger with Wood Group, after .
