Re: "A real brazier burner" (Social Animal, 14 March, page 21). In 1981 my dear friend Sandra Leventon resigned from her position as general secretary of what is now known as the Community and Youth Workers Union.

She had held this role since 1965, pipping Baroness Brenda Dean to the post as the first woman to run a trade union by 20 years.
