The transfer of 24,000 council homes in Walsall could be delayed if the local council鈥檚 executive board is replaced, councillors have warned.
Following an inspection earlier this year, the Audit Commission recommended that Walsall council鈥檚 senior management team be replaced by private sector consultants for a period of up to two years.

Local government minister Nick Raynsford was due to decide whether to implement the Audit Commission鈥檚 recommendations following the deadline for Walsall鈥檚 response this week.

But Walsall councillors have expressed concerns that a change in the senior management team could result in a temporary shortage of 鈥渆xpertise鈥. It is feared this could cause difficulties with the preparations for stock transfer, expected to take place in October.

A spokesperson for Walsall council said: 鈥淎 full council meeting is scheduled and the local government minister will be informed of the position reached.鈥
