Terms relating to the description of fuse properties are described in summary form and the appropriate characteristics of fuses to protect against the hazards of electric shock, fire, excess current and energy are described. The characteristic properties of fuses are also considered in detail such as current and voltage rating cut-off current, time/current characteristics, breaking capacity, and power dissipation and discrimination.
A revised and comprehensive list of harmonised British, European and International standards is included along with selected North American and military standards. A wide-ranging bibliography is provided for readers wishing to explore the subject further.
