A new monitoring room based at Trafford Town Hall now gives 24 hour surveillance of Partington, an isolated inner city estate which has suffered high levels of crime.
The 16-camera CCTV system is designed to spot incidents of crime which were previously going unreported.
Two years ago the area was subject to a detailed Crime and Disorder Audit which confirmed that crimes were not reported.
The new monitoring room houses twenty five screens and is able to view the whole of the estate and surrounding neighbourhood.
It controls access points and also receives alarm calls triggered by local residents.
The system incorporates COE's Telecommand TCU16 control system as well as video, data and telecommunications being transmitted using the company's fibre transmission equipment.
The issue of privacy was high on the residents' list of concerns and COE's Telecommand DPZ (Dynamic Privacy Zoning) is able to comply with the Code of Practice and protect residents rights under the Privacy Act.
