Your item on the implications of the Communities Plan ("The Verdict", 14 February, page 16) was interesting.

The key issue for those of us in the South Midlands and Milton Keynes area is how to accommodate a significant increase in the size of the housing stock and achieve the infrastructure development that is needed to support these new citizens, while also trying to address the deprivation and exclusion that is already present in our area. Northampton, which is in the East Midlands region, has areas of deprivation that fly in the face of your description of the south of the region as being prosperous.

While accepting that these things are relative, there is an increasing concern that the East Midlands Region is portrayed as having a prosperous south and a deprived north. This description does not stand up to scrutiny if one takes the time to look at the challenges we all face across the East Midlands.
