These include both fixed and tilt-down town centre models as well as special anti vandal camera poles. Altron has also supplied 40 Help Point posts, specially developed for the city centre scheme.
The complete CCTV system has been designed and installed by national installation company Quadrant Video Systems, in two phases over a twelve month period, as part of an on going programme of CCTV surveillance improvement within Sheffield.
The official launch of the system in February marked the completion of the Government funded stages of the scheme. The £2.8m Home Office funding secured by Sheffield First for Safety has been extended to £3.35m through partnerships with the city's tram operator SYPTE, the main retail shopping centre, Meadowhall, and the University of Sheffield.
Anti-vandal poles
CCTV cameras have been installed throughout Sheffield, with the camera poles being predominantly located in and around the city centre itself. For this installation, the poles specified included a number of AW1664 anti vandal poles with double skins, as well as a large quantity of the AW1545 combined cabinet base pole, popular in town centres.
As part of the city CCTV scheme, 12 AW1545 poles were specified in 5 metre tilt down format and these are being used to monitor the main tram stops on the SYPTE passenger tram system. Also at each tram stop, two purpose designed Altron Help Point posts have been installed. These have been specially modified to meet customer requirements.
Quadrant Video Systems has a long standing successful working relationship with Altron which designs and manufactures CCTV camera mounting equipment, from a purpose built factory in South Wales.
Sheffield First for Safety is a local partnership committed to securing lasting reductions in crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour, and a greater sense of community safety.
