The new BS5839-Pt 1 2002 was the subject of two recent seminars held by Siemens at the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh
The seminars, conducted by industry experts, Andrew Morgan and Jim Fowler, filled the theatre in the college with more than 100 attendees.

The new Standards become mandatory on 15 July. The seminars were held to discuss their effects on fire detection systems design, and major changes when performing risk assessments. The changes will have a marked effect on cabling and detection coverage.

To bring the subject to life, the progress of experimental fires were relayed via CCTV onto viewing screens in the theatre, and the audience were shown computer printouts using normal test equipment.

Siemens has responded to the positive seminar feedback by arranging another session on 20 May. To request a place on this and future seminars, email kim.inwards@siemens.com
