Phillips next ACPO President
Sir David Phillips QPM will become the next President of ACPO when Tony Burden steps down in October. Sir David is Chief Constable of Kent Police.

At the Association of Security Consultants Anniversary Luncheon, it was suggested that the position of ACPO President could become a three-year, full-time role – leading to the office holder relinquishing their role as a Chief Constable. No final decision has been taken.

New BSIA Publications
The BSIA has produced several new publications of major interest to Security Management Today's readers.

The first of these – entitled 'A Regulated Security Industry: Grasping the Realities, Embracing the Opportunities' – outlines the main areas covered by the Private Security Industry Act. It also offers much useful information and a host of contacts.

An invaluable guide to the Act, then, for companies and customers alike.

The Association has also produced a factsheet on the requirements governing personal attack alarms, as set out in the new ACPO Security Systems Policy ('ACPO 2000'). The guide aims to educate customers on when to use/not use a personal attack alarm. An excellent 'customer care tool'.

'Security Classifications of Access Control Systems' is also available. Produced in conjunction with the Association of British Insurers, the guide lists products by grade to indicate the level of security cover which each one provides. The aim is to ensure specifiers choose the appropriate system type.

Single copies of each publication are available free of charge. Telephone the BSIA Publications Department on 01905 21464 to order your copies.
