A law seeking to restrict tenants’ right to buy their homes has come into force in Scotland
The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 extends the residency requirement for tenants intending to buy their homes from two to five years. It also cuts the maximum discount available to 35% or £15,000, whichever is the lowest figure.
Housing associations have been granted up to10 years’ exemption from the policy. Ayrshire North Community Housing Organisation has already announced its intention to apply the new rules.
