Route one: Newcastle council has voted to press ahead with its application to transfer its 33,000 council homes – including those on the Byker estate (above) – to an arm's-length management organisation. The council's cabinet voted unanimously to continue its ALMO bid last Wednesday. If successful, tenants will get the chance to vote on the proposals in September. A council spokeswoman said tenants' reaction to the proposals had been positive so far.
