The government is funding a radical pilot scheme to link up benefit systems, allowing claimants to access all services from a single point.
If the £7.3m trial is successful, it will enable social housing tenants to access all of their benefits by filling in one electronic form.

The pilot, which is being overseen by Rotherham council, is set to be launched by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister on 22 May.

Liverpool, Tameside and Sheffield councils are trialling other parts of the plan. If it works, it will be rolled out nationwide.

Karen Lewis, senior e-government project manager at Liverpool council, said: "This is about different ministries all getting together and asking – could we not share information?"
