Baxall and Evolve Technology Group, a specialist in integration of data voice and video equipment, displayed the Destiny-IP video over network solutions at the ITSA show in Minneapolis in May.
Destiny-IP can be used to send full-motion, real-time, digital quality video, together with sound and data, across any network that supports IP. Products in the range include cameras, a keyboard, recorder and codec, and a range of software applications designed with single and multi-user systems in mind.
The newly-launched Destiny CCTV Plus allows for 16 channels to be viewed and recorded simultaneously, along with a new Destiny-API (application programme interface).

"A UK first"
Technology used at Thurrock is said to represent a UK first for council monitored systems. All of Thurrock Council's CCTV pictures feed back to a central monitoring centre using their existing broadband computer network. Live and recorded video pictures are viewed using wireless LAN networks.
Thurrock Council says this is the first time the technology has been used on such a scale in this country, with no need for videotapes to record, or separate copper or fibre optic cables to bring pictures back to the central monitoring suite.
At the monitoring centre two 17-inch flat screen displays replace the traditional wall of screens. Live or recorded images can be selected in full or matrix screen formats. Twelve additional computer monitors, each showing four cameras, continuously sequence through the borough's 200 cameras at 17 locations.
No more faxes!
Custodian Monitoring Services has launched an upgraded version of SMARTPac, a web-based product which is redefining the way installers can manage and control customer databases on-line, in real time, without the need for off-line verification.
Free to all Custodian customers, SMARTPac enables amendments and additions to be made to keyholder information, as well as making changes to a host of data including site details, mail addresses, IDs and zones. Easy to use, installers are provided with live on-line reports, giving them up-to-the-minute status reports on any site, at any time, as a totally automated process.
As an integral part of SMARTPac, SMARTPac Reports provide access to critical reports 24/7 without the need to dial up every time and with a view-only facility which gives installers a snap-shot of the system at the time of access. The Reports package has been developed in-house and can be fully integrated with other Windows software.
Custodian's Keith Pendlebury explained: "In an environment of rapid change and technological development, customers expect systems that are easier to understand, allow more real time changes and give absolute confidence of accurate data changes without the need for off-line verification. It means the end of communicating by fax once and for all."

Ethernet range expanded
International Fiber Systems, manufacturer of fibre optic transmission equipment, has expanded its range of Ethernet products. Following the introduction of the D7100 Ethernet series of single port transceivers last year and the promise to expand the range, IFS has introduced the D7400, four-port series Ethernet, drop-and-repeat transceivers.
As with the D7100 series, the units will function at either 10Mbps or 100Mbps without any adjustments and are available for both multi-mode and single-mode fibre.
Iain Deuchars, MD of IFS (Europe), commented: "Within the computing world, Ethernet has become the most popular choice for the physical layer for local area networks. It owes a lot to its low cost, speed, broad compatibility and the fact that it is relatively easy to install. Today we are seeing the protocol being applied to other types of network, and within the security and surveillance industries, especially where distance and speed are important. Ethernet is becoming the ideal choice for more systems."
The units are environmentally hardened to withstand the harsh out-of-plant conditions that many security networks have to cope with, and operate at temperatures between 鈥 40 and +74 deg C. They are available as standalone or rack-mount versions.

Handles both analogue & IP
Mirasys has released DINA 3.5, the latest version of the DINA video management system. In addition to increased frame rates and other ease of use upgrades, DINA 3.5 allows combined usage of network and analogue cameras, becoming "the first system ever to allow such a combination of protocols."
The network camera digitises the image inside the camera and serves its images to the network via its own IP address, thus eliminating the distance limitations found in coax applications.
"The DINA 3.5 offering is a real breakthrough in digital video management systems," said Jari Holmborg, President and CEO of Mirasys. "The ability to view images from both IP and analogue cameras in the same system opens a whole new world of alarm monitoring, visual verification of alarms and remote management of critical facilities."
The ability to view, investigate or save images without travelling to the site is a significant time-saver. And IP cameras increase the benefits of a DINA network by allowing one or more cameras to reside in remote applications, while still allowing the user full access via DINA's intuitive user interface.

Profectus & MAXxess join forces
Business solutions provider Profectus Group and MAXxess, specialists in secure electronic management systems, are due to launch a joint development at IFSEC. The aim is to provide clients with a complete web-based solution to site, facilities and work flow management.
ProMAXx has been designed to bring together the advanced technological capabilities of MAXxess with the strategic and formulaic benefits of the Profectus Help Desk system. The solution is a flexible, user-friendly web-based tool providing 24-hour remote management of sites.
The package has the automatic capability to manage calls for assistance, as well as provide users with bespoke forms for the efficient manual record of other incidents.
Steve McDowell, project/business development director at Profectus Group, commented: "The technology can detect and action solutions on problems which range from a broken window to an unauthorised vehicle or intruder on site."
