Firm headed by ISG’s former fit out boss Lee Phillips
Wates’ new fit out business has won its first major job since being set up last autumn, Ðǿմ«Ã½ understands.
The firm is set to land a deal to carry out the work for credit rating agency Moody’s which is leaving its Canary Wharf home of the past 16 years for a new office at 10 Gresham Street in the City.
The 145,000 sq ft office refurbishment, which has been drawn up architect Gensler, will add a 2,576 sq ft private roof terrace for the firm as well as a communal indoor rooftop pavilion providing panoramic views of St Paul’s Cathedral and the City skyline.
Ðǿմ«Ã½ understands Wates beat BW in the final race for the job which is believed to be worth around £20m.
Wates Fit Out, which declined to comment, was set up last October and is being run by ISG’s former fit out boss Lee Phillips.
The new firm’s remit is to focus on commercial fit out and refurbishment work in London and has recruited heavily from ISG which sank into administration las September.
Moody’s has been at One Canada Square since 2009 but will make the switch to the Square Mile once its lease runs out next year.
Several other businesses are leaving the Docklands estate, notably HSBC which is due to move into a former BT office, overhauled by Mace, in 2027.

Overbury has won the deal to carry out the fit out at 81 Newgate Street at St Paul’s with the £250m job the biggest fit out contract let in London last year.
Meanwhile, Structure Tone is thought to be close to agreeing a deal to carry out fit out work at Google’s new headquarters building in King’s Cross.
The firm, which declined to comment, has long been linked with the work which was due to have been carried out by ISG and was worth around £150m when the collapsed firm won it 20 months ago.
Former ISG chief Matt Blowers has been joint managing director of Structure Tone since last September.
