Gareth Lewis to work two days a week at £350m turnover Phoenix ME
Mace’s former construction boss Gareth Lewis has been appointed a non-executive of M&E contractor Phoenix ME.
Lewis left Mace last summer after 27 years at the firm with his arrival at Phoenix marking the firm’s first non-executive in more than 90 years of trading.
Phoenix chief executive Lee Compton, who has been at the business for two decades, said Lewis will work around two days a week. East London-based Phoenix carries out work mainly in London and the South-east as well as data centre jobs in Europe.
Compton added that Lewis’s brief will be to strengthen Phoenix’s corporate governance and “support the continued growth of the business, particularly within the data centre and life sciences sectors, which remain central to Phoenix ME’s long-term ambitions”.
Compton said: “We are thrilled to welcome Gareth to the board. His proven leadership, industry expertise and track record of delivering complex programmes make him a tremendous asset as we scale our business and deepen our presence in key sectors across the UK and Europe.”
Phoenix has a forward order book of around £800m and in its last set of results for the year to September 2024 saw turnover jump three-quarters to £295m while pre-tax profit was up 43% to £10.6m.
The firm, which also includes a data cabling business called Phoenix Trescray, is expected to post revenue of £350m when it files its next set of accounts this year with this set to be around £400m for the year after.
The number of employees is expected to be close to 600 this year, up from last year’s 473.
