Facilities and support services firm Mears Group has launched a separate facilities management division in a bid to widen the scope of the firm's brand within the facilities management sector.
The launch of the new unit, Mears Facilities Management, was announced as the group reported a 42 per cent rise in pre-tax profits for the six months to 30 June 2001.

Mears Facilities Management will be rolled out next month under the management of Paul Taylor, formerly at Interserve FM.

Group chairman Robert Holt is understood to have wanted to turn the focus of the business more towards facilities management, using the company's strength as a maintenance services provider as a growth platform.

Taylor said that the new unit has already secured a number of contracts. 'Initially we will be building on what we have already been doing, particularly in maintenance, but we will also be seeking new contracts, especially in the private sector,' he added.

The facilities management division will be based in Oldbury in the West Midlands to enable the firm to 'strike out from the Midlands to all ports' said Taylor.
