New chairmen have been appointed to five sections of the British Security Industry Association – Access Control, CCTV, Export Council, Physical Security Equipment and Transport
Says the BSIA: "Their roles take on a particular significance given the growing importance of each of the twelve individual BSIA sections. Their work on technical standards, research and promotional initiatives is shaping the future of the security industry."

Taking their sectors forward are:

  • Access Control: Phillip Gater, MD of TDSi Ltd, who has been involved for the last 16 years with card-based secure access and cashless payment systems for vending and copier control. He founded Sarasota Revenue Systems in 1986, and it was sold to TDSi in 1991. His contribution to the sector was recognised in a BSIA Chairman's Award. He takes over from Peter Kimpton, formerly of Bewator Cotag, who resigned from the position at the end of 2000.

  • CCTV: Adam Wiseberg MD of Remguard Ltd. A regular speaker on CCTV, particularly on remote monitoring, he was a member of the BSIA technical committee responsible for producing codes of practice on CCTV maintenance and detector activated remote monitoring. He became chairman of this committee during 2000. He is also chairman of the British Standards committee, GW/1/10. He succeeds Una Riley, Managing Director of Euro Security Systems Ltd.

  • Export Council: Andrew Knights, CE of Smokecloak Ltd. He has been deputy chairman of this section for the last two years. He has also been a BSIA Security Equipment Manufacturers committee member since 1996 and a BSIA Council Member since 2000. He works closely with the BSIA technical department on codes of practice and the development of British Standards. He takes over from David Young of Group 4 Technology Ltd.

  • Physical Security Equipment: Tim Strawson of Bradbury Group Ltd. In 1991 he founded Bradbury Security Grilles Limited, now known as Bradbury Group Ltd. He has been a Physical Security Equipment Section committee member for three years and has represented the Section on the board of the LPCB for the last 2 years. He replaces Nick Medlam, of Safetell Ltd.

  • Transport: Mel Scott, MD of Securitas UK Ltd. Formerly with Loomis, as general manager for Western Canada , in 1997 he returned to the UK to head Securitas UK as managing director. He is also a director of the European Security Transport Association (ESTA). He takes over from Ken Niven of Securicor Cash Services Ltd.
