Liverpool council has agreed measures to help the residents of its Boot estate in Norris Green.
Redevelopment plans collapsed last month but the council has now set up a taskforce to improve the appalling living conditions on the 1500-home estate while it is being demolished.

Executive member for housing Flo Clucas has promised residents better consultation and swift action.

Measures include:

  • rehousing residents more quickly from blocks that are partly empty so they can be cleared
  • speeding up gas disconnection, which is holding up clearance
  • fresh negotiation with developer Bishop Loch Homes to get the first 310 new homes started
  • a rubbish clearance contract to stop fly-tipping and vermin
  • more patrols by neighbourhood wardens and extra policing.

The council has cleared 172 homes and 166 are earmarked for the next phase. A spokesman said: "The team is evaluating our current approach to demolition, decanting, environmental issues and community safety and identifying action to improve and stabilise conditions on the estate."
