With regard to Islington council’s decision to terminate its contract with ITnet (“Islington pays £2m to scrap outsourcing deal”, 28 February, page 10), the council has signed a contract with the ITnet to provide backroom IT support, but no money has changed hands for the contract termination.

Addressing poor performance in benefits claims processing when we took control of the council meant we were able to set tougher performance targets, as your article states, and terminate the contract. Had we not done this, the human and financial cost of terminating the contract would have been much higher.

The decision means that the housing benefit and council tax benefit processing services are being brought back in-house, and the service will be run by Ian Adams – not Ian Evans as the article stated.
