Ikegami has won a contract to supply the complete surveillance camera systems for the Taiway High-Speed Railway, known as the Taiwan Shinkansen.
The system will incorporate 400 surveillance cameras when the railway opens in October 2005. The surveillance system will cover 215 miles between Taipei and Tsoying, making it the largest railway surveillance system in the world.
Equipment will be installed at all passenger stations, tunnels, feeder stations, the maintenance control centre and five depots. The system will use MPEG2 to compress the video data and IP as the protocol to transmit video over a combination of optical fibre ring and basic networks.
