tenants in a north london borough are to protest against the appointment of a consultant as their independent stock options adviser.
The move comes despite Haringey council's attempts to reassure tenants by giving them the option of choosing another adviser – an offer that they refused.

Supporters of anti-transfer group Defend Council Housing urged tenants to demonstrate against Mouchel Parkman's role in the borough's stock options appraisal.

The protest is set to coincide with Monday's meeting of Haringey's housing scrutiny panel.

Paul Burnham, a DCH activist, said Mouchel Parkman should be removed from the role as tenants adviser because it had taken over housing management functions from other London councils. He said Mouchel Parkman's contract to manage 11,000 homes for Hackney council meant it had a "conflict of interests".

However, Isidoros Diakides, Haringey's executive member for housing, said tenants' representatives turned down the chance to select a new adviser when Mouchel Parkman's contract with Hackney was confirmed in December 2003.

Diakides said: "We suggested that Mouchel Parkman could continue as tenant adviser so long as it was understood it would not be invited to participate in any outsourcing contract at Haringey."
