As a final year construction manager I would like to express my dismay on reading your special March edition of CM. No sooner do I sign and post away a cheque for my membership to the CIOB does the institute magazine land on the doorstep with an article rubbishing the degree that I have worked 4 long hard years to receive. The next few months will be the hardest of my academic career. This is a time when a little encouragement from an organisation I once aspired to become a member of, would not have gone astray! Instead disappointment and a feeling of bemusement as I find out potential employees don't rate the CM degree and "non-cognates" wait to take up my position in our industry.

Enthusiasm for the construction industry prompted me to apply for this degree and hard work has got me this far. If the CIOB really thinks that business studies graduates could do a better job than me then why not give accreditation to their courses and leave us to fend for ourselves!
