The housing association sector is in a good position to meet the government鈥檚 decent homes target by 2010, according to Clare Millar, Housing Corporation director of regulation.
Around 80% of associations responded to this year鈥檚 voluntary performance indicator on decency, she is expected to tell the NHF conference in Birmingham today.

The corporation is still analysing the data, but roughly one-third of those who responded said their stock already meets the decent homes standard.

鈥淚f we are talking about a 2010 target then that is a good starting point,鈥 Miller told Housing Today.

But associations must be honest if they are in difficulty. 鈥淥ur approach will be as much about promoting best practice as sending the inspectors in,鈥 Miller said. 鈥淲e want associations to tell us the scale of the problem they face and how they will tackle it.鈥
