The Baxall multiplexer has been supplied with joystick and keyboard, and is being deployed to display six cameras’ images on three separate monitors – two in the ground’s Control Room and one located in the Main Reception. During major match days (which can include international day-night fixtures) trained operators are brought in. At all other times, the system is monitored by ground operations manager Peter Hall.
While CCTV is now a prominent feature in football stadiums across the country, its use in cricket grounds is a relatively recent phenomena but, as Hall told SMT, the Baxall system is already providing many benefits.
“First and foremost, it’s a deterrent,” stressed Hall. “People can see the cameras and the highly visible warning signs. If anyone should misbehave or commit an act of criminality inside the ground, we can monitor that and share the information with the local police.”
Hall feels that the system has been successful at least in part because of its simplicity. “The ZMX CT10 is very easy to use,” added Hall. “Recently, we had to employ a replacement operator at the last minute who wasn’t familiar with the system. In under an hour he was fully up to speed with its operation.”
