Not a word of the Channel Four commentary from future Cheltenham Gold Cups will be missed thanks to a new electrical system at the racecourse.
Channel Four uses a large number of vehicles that need power, including broadcast and production facilities and catering vans. These need a 500 A single-phase supply. To satisfy this load and ensure a constant supply, there are two 350 kVA single-phase generators in parallel.

Event Power Services, which installs and maintains power supplies at the racecourse called on Bill Switchgear for a panel to control these supplies.

The firm recommended its Talisman MPS modular panelboard system as it allows a mix of incoming and outgoing devices in a single panel; here a 500 A single-phase supply and 100 A single-phase incomer from the 230 V racecourse supply are needed. Outgoing circuits are controlled by 16, 32, 63 and 125 A circuit-breakers.
