I am more than slightly surprised that Ian Norris calls the RICS a ‘single-discipline institute’ (‘News and Views’, April). The RICS has 16 - count them - faculties, ranging from Antiques and Fine Arts, through Minerals and Waste Management, to Plant and Machinery, not to mention Ðǿմ«Ã½ Surveying, Construction and Valuations. (With apologies to the other ten not mentioned.)

In reality there are only a few areas where the two organisations touch. It would be interesting to see the real comparable membership.

I think that the main point made by Ian Norris is valid, and that the CIOB should emphasise that the B stands for Ðǿմ«Ã½ and not Builders.
