BT redcare has completed the installation of a £1.2m CCTV fibre-optic network and transmission system linking 78 public space CCTV cameras throughout Fife.
The network links the town centres of Dunfermline, Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly, Burntisland, Kircaldy, Leven, Cupar and St Andrews, providing real time video and management of individual cameras from a single control room in Glenrothes.

The network is one of the largest, in terms of geographic area covered, within the UK. BT's RS1000 Vision Service underpins the installation, and the project is a key commitment of Fife's Community Safety Partnership, which includes the police and Fife Council.

DC Tom Courts of Fife Constabulary, project co-ordinator, said the CCTV system will fulfil a number of functions including monitoring incidents such as traffic congestion or missing or vulnerable people, and assist in providing a response to potential or developing situations through early intervention. The system is also capable of providing evidence in prosecutions as a result of high quality CCTV images recorded in the Glenrothes control room.
