I have just graduated from a CIOB accredited course, a BSc in construction engineering management at Loughborough University, and am now working within the industry, while simultaneously progressing on the CIOB’s professional development programme. I am disappointed that the institute does not run a competition for young professionals, similar to the recent ICE Young Civil Engineer of the Year competition.

What with the current problem of attracting young people into the industry, the highlighting of first-class young people who champion the industry while also providing examples of what kind of jobs construction can offer, can only be a beneficial opportunity - one which both the industry and the CIOB are missing out on.

If we are going to attract young people then we have to make the most of any opportunities that arise. After all, young people connect best with other young people.
