An offsite construction specialist has launched a new initiative aimed at funding healthcare facilities built by modular methods.
Yorkon says the design, build and finance package allows health authorities or NHS Trusts to fund a new building through an operating lease arrangement.
Under this arrangement, design and build risk rests with Yorkon, and not on the client. All funding, interest rate and tax risk is transferred to the funding bank. It believes this arrangement is an alternative to PFI as the set up costs are low and the lease documentation is simple.
Keith Blanshard, Yorkon general manager, said it was important to consider all the funding options available to establish best value. 鈥淧FI can be effective where there is a shortage of capital resources to fund larger schemes - 拢20m plus. However, while this method can work very well, it can also be a relatively expensive and complex route.鈥
