Wheelchair-friendly housing specialist Habinteg Housing Association is joining the Places for People Group.
The association, which is an authority on homes adapted for wheelchair users, will become part of Places for People in the autumn.
The move will give Habinteg access to more development funds and help it save money on administration.
Habinteg’s development director Paul Gamble said of the decision to join the group: “There’s demand for low-cost home ownership for disabled people that isn’t being met. We hope, with Places for People, to turn that into a great opportunity.
Gamble added that an additional incentive for Habinteg was the fact that Places for People was bidding for a share in the Housing Corporation’s £200m pilot fund of grants for private developers to develop social homes.
Habinteg has 2200 rented properties, 650 of which are specifically built for wheelchair users. The rest meet the lifetime homes standard, which ensures homes are able to be adapted at a later date.
Zenna Atkins, chair of the Places for People Group, said: “We want improve the life choices of our disabled customers. Habinteg is the leading authority in accessible housing and we’re delighted to be negotiating with them.â€
