Roofing manufacturers Marley and Eternit Slates are offering 15-year design performance indemnity cover on all roofs built using their products. The Marley Assured Roofing Specification covers any roof in any location, whether public or private sector, new build or refurb. Marley has also launched the Duo Edgemere and Duo Marquess (pictured above) interlocking slates, both available in grey and red. Duo Edgemere is a standard 420 by 330mm concrete Edgemere divided into ‘two’ slates with a mock bond that fits in with small-format slates found in some areas. Edgemeres are 40% thinner than standard concrete slates and weigh 4.5kg. The Duo Marquess is a lightweight slate with a similar mock-bond effect giving the appearance of smaller slates. Eternit has extended its dry-fix ventilation systems for natural clay plain tiles to decorative ridges. A visible stainless steel clip will fit all angles of the company’s two-hole, club and coxcomb-crested ridges.

MATTHEW HEBDEN
Shingle supplier Matthew Hebden has added to its metal-clad asphalt shingles with a zinc titanium model. The 5mm-thick tiles consist of seven layers of different materials topped with zinc titanium foil, which folds back to cover the tile’s bottom edge and turns a greyish-blue colour on contact with the atmosphere. The composite construction can be used on complex and curved roofs. The minimum pitch for nailed installation is 17 degrees or 19 degrees, depending on the type of tile, although Tegola underlay can reduce the pitch still further.

DANIEL PLATT
Daniel Platt has introduced flush-fit natural clay vents that blend into tiled roofs (pictured above). The In-Line Tile Vent takes up the space of three tiles and can be used for high-level or low-level ventilation. The vent can also ventilate mechanical extraction systems and through-roof soil pipes.

KLOBER
Klober has launched a lightweight membrane for ventilated pitched roofs. Constructed of three layers of non-woven polypropylene that gives high tensile and nail-tear strength, Span-Tech is an alternative to bitumen felt. An absorbent backing holds excess water vapour until it can be ventilated from the roof space.
The company has also introduced a vapour-permeable universal membrane, called Roll Fix, which mechanically fixes and ventilates pitched roofs, regardless of the type of underlay used. Roll Fix has weather-tight seals and fixes to suit half-round and angled ridge and hip tiles, and can be installed in one operation. It comes in red, dark brown and anthracite and three widths (260mm, 295mm and 390mm), and has special corrugations and adhesive strips that can be moulded to the tiles.

UNILINE
Uniline has introduced a new Force Management System anchor that fits directly on top of flat single-ply membrane roofs. The anchor can be easily sealed and has a 25-year performance and corrosion guarantee. The Force Management System controls the forces generated by a fall, distributing the load across the roof.

SGB
SGB’s new Coverspan 10 (pictured above) can operate as both a temporary roof and a scaffold bracing system. Made of 610mm-thick aluminium beams up to 7.2m in length, Coverspan 10 weighs only 4.3kg per metre and can span up to 25m. The PVC-sheeted structure can either be built in situ or pre-assembled on the ground and
then craned into position. The Coverspan 10 roof can incorporate mobile or removable sections, allowing any materials or equipment to be craned in. In addition, a downward curve at either end of the beams reduces wind uplift.

NATURAL Ðǿմ«Ã½ TECHNOLOGIES
Ecological materials supplier Natural Ðǿմ«Ã½ Technologies has introduced a water-resistant sarking board with a K-value of 0.05Wm2C. The Isolair board gives a breathable roof and can be left unprotected during construction. Made from pinewood waste and latex, it comes in 2500mm by 770m panels in thicknesses of 22mm, 35mm and 52mm.

SANDTOFT
Back in production - after a break of 50 years - the famous Bridgwater clay tile is now manufactured by Sandtoft on Humberside. Originally made in Bridgwater, Somerset, the tile became part of the West Country vernacular and when production stopped, it created confusion for builders and architects in the area. The new version (pictured above) resembles its predecessor in profile, shape and colour.
