The perfect match for any tile

A new range of slate/tile cowl vents from Hartington Conway adopts one of the lowest profiles on the market. The company claims it can match the colour, texture, shape and size of virtually any new or weathered slate or tile. Lightweight and easy to fit, the Harcon cowl vents come with felt sleeves to keep the air flow unobstructed. They can also be supplied with flexipipes for connection to soil pipes and mechanical extraction systems. Enquiry number 207

Haki’s beam of hope for roofing

You can now build large temporary roofs fast with a new 750mm-deep alloy roof beam from Haki. The Hakitec 750 allows clear spans bigger than 30 metres. The maximum 45kNm bending moment and maximum shear of 30kN make it the strongest alloy beam currently available in the UK. Full moment joints, systemised lacing and bracing and simple connections mean the Hakitec 750 can be designed for use in roof or scaffold applications. Coverings for a Hakitec 750 roof include standard Hakitec sheeting, Keder-style sheeting or the Super Cassette. Enquiry number 208

Easy-peasy panelling

A new range of cross-laminated spruce panels from Construction Resources offers easily assembled elements for walls, ceilings and roofs as well as floors. Cidda, a flexible friend

A faster, cheaper way to fit cast-iron above-ground drainage pipes together comes in the form of Cidda rubber gaskets on cast-iron push-fit joints. The rubber-sealed joints look like traditional lead and yarn couplings, but are easier to fit, repair and replace. For below-ground installations, the push-fit joints are a flexible alternative to coupling and pipe laying. Enquiry number 209

Liquid protection

Sealocrete claims its new ‘liquid roof’ Contractopol can be applied in any weather short of a monsoon! A solvent-based coating laced with synthetic fibres, you apply it straight out of the tin for a tough and flexible single-coat membrane. Keybemo scores with standing seam

Keybemo’s standing seam roofing has been certified as complying with Part L of the Ðǿմ«Ã½ Regulations. Keybemo increased the thickness of insulation and reduced the amount of thermal bridging. The system now restricts air leakage to 5m3/h/m2 at 50Pa on buildings over 1000m2, which is half that required by Part L. The company also offers an on-site air-leakage inspection service. Down on the farm

Eternit has extended its Farmscape profiled fibre cement product, adding a 2900mm long sheet to the original 1525mm and 2440mm lengths. The Farmscape range is designed to help agricultural structures blend into the surrounding countryside by using a surface pigmentation rather than gloss paint. Unlike metal sheets, Farmscape aborbs moisture, which can subsequently dry out rather than condense on the roof’s underside. Enquiry number 214

Crowning moment for breathable underlay

Knauf Insulation has launched Crown Breatheline, an all-in-one roofing underlay. The vapour-permeable membrane can be used with cold and warm pitched roofs and profile metal roofs. A flexible sheet with a non-woven polypropylene coating on both sides Crown Breatheline acts as a secondary drainage layer to keep water out of a building. It also minimises condensation. The sheet is installed directly over insulation or sarking or can be draped unsupported over rafters. Enquiry number 215

Working with water

With rainwater on new builds no longer allowed to flow immediately into sewers, developers have to collect, treat and ideally reuse storm water where it falls. Modular Atlantis cells from Marley Plumbing & Drainage are one way of controlling surface water at source. Light and easy to handle but able to withstand a load of nine tonnes per sq m, 90% of the cells are empty space, reducing on-site excavation. Enquiry number 216

Arcadia tiles: brand spanking ‘old’

Like wine, clay tiles improve with age, weathering to a fine rustic appearance. But reclaimed, ready-weathered pantiles are scarce, expensive and difficult to lay. Sandtoft has accordingly launched its Arcadia pantile, which emulates the character and appearance of aged, reclaimed pantiles, including effecting the random patterns of ageing caused by the onset of organic growth and environmental pollutants. Arcadia copies the shape of a traditional English clay pantile, offering the same coverage of 17.5 tiles per sq m. Quick and easy to fit, the Arcadia looks like a handmade tile but comes with a 60-year guarantee and is readily available. Enquiry number 217
