Homelessness among ex-offenders is a worsening problem.
The Homelessness Act of 2002 does little or nothing to alleviate this problem. The issue of intentional homeless, is often open to wide interpretation; not to the benefit of the ex-offenders.
Statistics have shown that only a minute percentage are resettled in a flat or similar accommodation. The home office should look into this area, particularly if crime reduction is the government’s goal, and if it really wants to achieve sustainable communities and neighbourhood renewal.
I believe everyone deserves a second chance in life. The way ex-offenders are treated is often humiliating and appalling.
A stable home is desirable for all, regardless of status in society. The government should direct more resources at this potential crisis of homeless ex-offenders for the benefit of safer communities at large.
