A council scheme that turns disused buildings into affordable homes is about to celebrate the completion of its 100th property.
Wandsworth council in south London launched the Hidden Homes project in 2002 to turn garages, storage areas and other estate buildings into housing. It has also set up a website to help social landlords that want to start similar schemes.
Martin Johnson, Wandsworth鈥檚 cabinet member for housing, said: 鈥淲e think there could be about 10,000 hidden homes on estates across the capital. By sharing a few of our secrets on the website, we hope to encourage other councils to start looking at their own stock.鈥
The council said it had identified almost 200 hidden homes on 22 estates just in Wandsworth.
The 100th home, which is on the Roehampton Lennox estate, will be handed over to tenants on 23 March.
