The Ideal

Ideal Industries’ new Signaltek-Fo cable performance tester provides an everyday qualifier for both copper and fibre networks. Datacomm installers, electrical contractors and IT/network managers can use one qualifier to check that installed fibre and copper cabling can support voice, video and data applications.

Signaltek-Fo offers all of the popular features of Ideal Industries’ existing Signaltek qualifier, such as Gigabit Ethernet qualification and active link testing, with the added benefit of fibre optic qualification.

Traditional power meter/light source kits only measure the attenuation of fibre optic links. As Gigabit Ethernet becomes the standard for backbone and zone fibre optic cabling, attenuation testing may not be enough to guarantee error-free performance. Signaltek-Fo’s Bit Error Rate Testing offers assurance that fibre optic links can support high-speed data in line with IEEE 802.3ab.

Cable guy

Dätwyler Cables has introduced Unilan Keystone Solution and Unilan Modular Solution; two standard compliant Class E cabling systems in copper technology. Both allow safe transmissions of all digital and analogue data, audio and image signals in corporate networks for applications like Voice over IP and Power over Ethernet on a long-term basis.

The MS modules are mounted onto the cables via a special gripper and can be employed with a broad range of twisted pair Cat 6 or 7 Uninet installation, patch and connecting cables together with outlets, patch panels and sub-racks.

Unilan KST 1/8 can be fixed into patch panels and outlets by using the snap-in principle. The cable access is realised via a wire distribution tool and IDC contacts.

Made to measure

Fujikura Europe has launched two new test and measurement tools for optical fibre.

The FLS-20T, a hand-held, battery-operated, dual laser light source with protective rubber boot, is designed to be used in conjunction with an optical power meter to measure loss over a fibre network. The device can operate at two wavelengths, 1310 µm and 1550 µm, and can incorporate selectable modes of signal from continuous wave light and modulated tones of 270 Hz, 1 kHz and 2 kHz.

The FVI-01, a miniature, keyring-size, battery-operated red laser light source, enables engineers to identify faults, bends, breaks and low quality splices or connections.

Total Kaos

Kingfisher Lighting has launched a new high performance street luminaire.

Kaos has a downward light output ratio of 82%, so emits no light above the horizontal. It is also rated IP66 with 60 mm Post Top and 34 mm/60 mm Side Entry. Various distribution patterns are achievable by changing focus, with options from 50 W to 400 W SON/HQI.
