When he took up the post of head of security at the G-Mex MICC (Manchester International Conference Centre) two years ago, the first thing Duncan Leavitt did was to rip out the existing CCTV system and replace it with a purpose-designed set-up.
While the ‘new’ system as it stands today certainly performs a central security role, it’s mainly in the area of overall site management that the chosen Vicon surveillance solution really comes into its own.
Among the main benefits the G-Mex now enjoys with the Vicon cameras is a much easier method of managing any acquired images in accordance with Data Protection Act requirements – largely thanks to Kollector 900 digital video recorders. These work in conjunction with Surveyor 2000 domes and a series of 20 Vicon Vistar PTZ units to ensure that image quality is first rate.
Storing video on a 60 Gb hard drive, the Kollector provides continuous recording times, while additional drives can be fitted by your installer for extended recording. The Kollector can record from 16 cameras simultaneously, while the recorded video is viewed through a CCTV monitor.
