that help the planet …

Solar panels, wind turbines, a central wood chip boiler and the city’s first pay as you go car club all help to make this 76-home development in Wolverhampton a potentially carbon neutral project. It is designed by Bill Dunster’s ZED Factory and will include affordable family units and apartments. The Matrix Housing Partnership put the scheme in for planning permission last month.

This scheme claims to be the UK’s first carbon-negative residential development – that is, it generates more energy than it uses. Each year the £26m development, by developer Citu, will save 2 tonnes of carbon per flat compared to a conventional modern flat. The 172-unit scheme will be built in Beeston, Leeds and will include a 100m wind turbine.
