The Audit Commission is set to announce plans to harmonise inspection ratings for housing associations and councils.
The review of housing inspection methodology is due for completion before Christmas.

It is understood that the review could recommend a definite rating system for housing associations, similar to the star ratings – from none to a maximum of three – currently given to council services (HT 3 October, page 13).

The Audit Commission's latest inspections include one star for Barking and Dagenham's housing repairs service and scope for improvement at Portsmouth Housing Association.

In Scotland, Communities Scotland released the result of its first social landlord inspection: Kilmarnock-based Atrium Homes was awarded a B grade. The best grade is A and the worst D.
