In 2008, as the entire country undergoes its switchover to digital TV broadcasting, many homes will find that they need upgrades to their reception systems.

From single antenna homes to entire housing estates and apartment blocks, signal transmission along coaxial cables must be protected from outside interference, while poorly insulated cables could affect the operation of other electrical appliances.

In anticipation of a swathe of upgrade work, the Confederation of Aerial Industries (CAI) is promoting the use of its benchmarked cable, which will comply with British Standards for electrical safety and be guaranteed against impulse noise ingression or signal radiation.

The CAI benchmarked cable is clearly marked on the cable drum and along the length of the cable’s outer sheath. Use of the cable is purely voluntary but the CAI believes it will be widely adopted. An industry wide committee will monitor implementation of the scheme.
