Electrical Contractors' Association
The Electrical Contractors' Association has introduced an HNC in contracting management. This management training programme is aimed at engineers, project managers, contracts managers and other similar technically qualified personnel in our industry. The course is designed to give technically competent staff the management skills, knowledge and experience necessary in today's ever changing environment. Judges said: "This initiative has great potential to contribute to the industry in the future as it teaches engineers to become competent managers".
Runners up
Buro HappoldBuro Happold launched its Archimedes suite of development programmes in 2002. Each programme is centred on role based activities, starting with the job leader and project leader roles. New programmes have now been commissioned for technicians and group leaders.
JTL
JTL arranges and manages the training (and funding) of apprentices by liaising with the Learning Skills Council/ELWa, colleges and employers. JTL supports up to 7000 apprentices across the four years of the apprenticeship with 2000 employers and over 80 colleges.
Mitsubishi Electric Europe
Mitsubishi took the bold step of introducing a warranty scheme only for those companies in the industry which hold recognised qualifications and have achieved C&G 2078, CITB Safe Handling accreditation or equivalent. Mitsubishi's philosophy is that by working this way, it is protecting the industry and professional companies within it. The scheme is backed with a Mitsubishi training scheme which provides theoretical and practical training.
NG Bailey & Co
During 2002, NG Bailey & Co became a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE). The award of this status recognises the massive investment by the organisation in training. NG Bailey has also become one of only three work-based training providers to win Learning and Skills Beacon status.

What makes the Stourbridge College Advanced Technology Centre unique is that it uses ICT hardware and software for its operations. It is a leader in innovation in new technologies for traditional craft and focuses solely on the building services and construction industries.
