Trade fabricator Tradelink has achieved the first A rated, double glazed window and has officially created the UK's most energy efficient double glazed window.

The product has been certified by the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC). The zero performance recording means that on balance, the Tradelink window does not lose energy. The Energy Rating for Windows has been created to provide true transparency for consumers when considering energy efficiency as part of their decision making process.

Including recognition by the Energy Saving Trust allowing Tradelink products to proudly boast the coveted ‘Energy Saving recommended logo', this clearly allows consumers to identify ‘best of breed', in terms of reduced heat loss in buildings & reduction of escalating energy bills.

Tradelink achieved the ‘A' rating by using a high performance insulated glass unit comprising:


  • Inner pane Saint Gobain's
  • SGG Planitherm Total 1.1;
  • Outer pane SGG Diamant
  • low-iron glass;
  • Edgetech Super Spacer ;
  • Argon gas filling.
In addition, the PVC-U frame incorporated Rehau's Thermal Sleeve solution.

Tradelink manufactures the HeatGuard range of high perfornance IG units at its factories in March, Cambridgeshire.

Choice of A, B or C

The A rated window complements the B and C rated window already offered by Tradelink, enabling customers to have a choice of products. Each is produced at the company's automatic Bystronic IGU processing facility in accordance with EN1279 part 2. Here simple variations to the automated processes enable the increase in thermal efficiency to achieve an A, B or C rating.

‘When we launched HeatGuard we wanted to create an insulated glazed unit that would set new low levels of conductivity and moisture transmission, together with prolonged life expectancy and thermal efficiency,' commented Jim Moody, Tradelink's Managing Director. ‘The A rating is the pinnacle of this.
