With contractors still getting used to the novel idea of the introduction of electrical safety to the Ðǿմ«Ã½ Regulations in the shape of a new Part P, readers will no doubt be delighted to know that a revision to Part L of the Regs will go out for consultation in 2004.
This latest update to the standards regarding energy efficiency in buildings has been brought forward from 2008 in the light of the Government's Energy White Paper and carbon emissions targets (page 9).

Meetings are currently taking place, industry is busy lobbying and compromises are being made. What is clear is that next July's consultation document is likely to include tough targets on air conditioning performance standards, renewable energy supplies, heating system seasonal efficiency standards and lighting equipment performance. You can also expect much better enforcement of the correlation between design and as-built performance.

At the recent BSRIA Briefing, contractors took a kicking for not embracing energy efficient solutions, with some parties suggesting that m&e contractors select on price alone. Adapt or die was the message. Were they talking about you?
