Lighten up
Friedland, part of Novar ED&S, has a full choice of PIRs for controlling lighting, including a wirefree version. The detectors provide coverage up to 360, 200, 140, 110 or 90 degrees for use with wall lights.

The 360, 200 and 140 models can control up to 1000W of either tung-sten filament or tungsten halogen lighting, while the 110 model can control up to 12000W of tungsten filament, 1000W of tungsten halo-gen or 500W of fluorescent lighting. All have a detection range of 15m.

The 90 degree detector can be fitted with a 60W tungsten filament or compact fluorescent lamp and will control up to an additional 1000W of tungsten filament or an additional 500W of tungsten halogen. Its detection range is 8m.

The Spectra floodlights include a 150W model for use with a 140 degree PIR detector and two 500W models for use with either a 140 degree or 200 degree PIR detector.

The detectors and floodlights are available in black or white. All are IP rated, either IP54 or IP44.

"Installed in the Kremlin!"
Israeli manufacturer Rokonet has brought together years of detector expertise and proprietary techno-logies to create a comprehensive range of attractive and installer-friendly detectors.

These are based on Rokonet's Anti-Cloak Technology and sophis-ticated acoustics. Incorporated into the sensors are "unique" detection and temperature compensation algorithms and specially-designed fresnel lenses. Additional features include white light protection, high RFI immunity and optional corner, wall and ceiling mount swivels.

Rokonet's range encompasses pet immune, active infrared-based anti-masking and audio verification models. The company's detectors are installed in more than 60 countries – including in the Kremlin, says Rokonet.

Wider and higher
Wider and higher were the two most apt words to describe the attributes of the DS939 from Bosch, according to our experts when they Bench Tested the PIR last year. With a capability of 360 degrees coverage over an area of 21.3m diameter when mounted at a maximum height of 7.6m, it is eminently suitable for protecting larger areas.

"We believe these figures are well in excess of those for other 360 degree ceiling mount detectors," they wrote. "It is housed in a distinctively-shaped tri-cornered enclosure with a fresnel lens at each corner. Each lens can be individually vertically adjusted to provide optimum coverage of the protected area, particularly useful where efficient coverage of split-level areas is required or where centre mounting may not be convenient.

"The DS939 has been designed for ease of installation, with totally enclosed electronics and a separate detachable mounting base. It per-formed very well during stability testing, carried out on high sensitivity."

Bosch explained: "Achieving optimum performance is simple.

An innovative light pipe system channels light from the high-efficiency LED. This LED is visible throughout the entire coverage area. Installers can more accurately determine coverage without complicated testing procedures."

Covering all angles
The Octopus EP, from Scantronic, is a 360 degree ceiling mount PIR. It has an interlocking quad element pyro-electric sensor, which works by positioning elements so that an intruder walking in any direction through the detectors' field of view will directly cross a positive or negative zone.

Other features include a 3D lens for optimum coverage pattern, pulse count options, positive or negative edge triggering, patented independent floating and twin LEDs to facilitate a walk test.

And finally …
In response to customer requests, Safety Technology International has added to its motion detector cages for protection of corner applications.

Constructed from tough nine-gauge plastic coated steel rod, the cages in the range protect a wide range of PIRs and motion detectors from vandalism or accidental damage.

Quick and easy to install, the cages are available from stock and supplied with a full fixing kit. For additional security, anti tamper screws are also available.

Fuzzy logic

Bosch Security Systems continues to expand its range of detectors with the addition of the DS778 PIR for long-range detection in large areas such as retail stores, factories, warehouses, larger office spaces etc.

It provides detection for internal areas up to 60m long by 5.7m across at heights of up to 3m, and features include built-in intelligence for high immunity to false alarms and easy installation by one person. Bosch now claims to have “the widest and best range of detectors on the market”.

The detector features a high-efficiency LED which is visible throughout the entire coverage area. This LED allows a sole person to accurately install and walk-test the detector, minimising installation costs and service callback.

Other features simplifying installation include internally pointable optics and four flexible mounting options.

The DS778 also has Bosch’s patented Motion Analyser II Signal Processing (MAP II) fuzzy logic technology which intelligently analyses any detection incident to eliminate false alarms.

Motion Analyser II uses multiple thresholds and timing windows to analyse timing, amplitude, duration and polarity of signals before making an alarm decision.

Internal Noise Voltage Test Pins allow precise and easy location and background disturbance evaluation of sensitivity and coverage using a standard analogue meter.

Common housing

GardTec has expanded its eurosec range of movement detectors with the V40 Pet Immune model. This PIR gives coverage of 12m and incorporates full pet immunity up to 33kg.

It has a microprocessor which has been designed and programmed specifically for troublesome residential applications, in households with pets.

The eurosec PIRs share a common housing as well as white light protection, selectable pulse count and automatic temperature compensation. The detectors are also available in normal PIR, dual technology and quad versions.

Other PIR ranges from GardTec include Gardscan M & Q. Gardscan, like eurosec, benefits from advanced frequency analysis and filter techniques to optimise their performance.

GardTec uses custom integrated circuitry on its range of PIRS which makes the engineer set-up time simple and keeps installation time to a minimum.
