Diversity and VERSATILITY are characteristics that physical security equipment certainly has to offer end users, writes Martin Williams.

The BSIA has always advocated an holistic approach to security, encompassing the wide variety of security solutions that the Association has to offer. With this in mind, I believe that physical security solutions should form the cornerstone of any security system. CCTV, access control, security guarding and intruder alarms all need the support of basic physical security solutions. Where would a bank be without the locks and safes that keep the money in and the intruders out?

The diversity of the equipment on offer from members of the BSIA’s Physical Security Equipment Section means that end users have the choice of a variety of solutions suitable for their every need. Members of the Section supply and install equipment which spans everything from computer security systems through to locks, screens and safes, automatic teller machines, safety deposit centres, security fencing, shutters and grilles.

Despite this diversity, members of the Section all share a determination to provide expert security advice in their own field, in addition to quality products and services that conform to all relevant standards and Codes of Practice.

One of the Section’s key objectives is to persuade end users to place proper value on products tested and certified as conforming to market-recognised standards.

It is the Section’s desire for membership of the BSIA to be recognised by end users, insurers and related organisations as the de facto requirement for companies supplying and installing physical security equipment. As such, it’s essential that, as a Section, we remain committed to high standards and quality levels so that end users can have faith in the products we supply, knowing that they are in safe hands.
