An employment tribunal has ruled that four electricians were unfairly dismissed by electrical contractor DAF Electrical for trade union activities.

The four were among 11 workers sacked over a year ago by DAF Electrical from its Piccadilly Gardens site in Manchester. The 鈥渕assive win鈥� marks the end of a protest which followed claims that unskilled workers were hired on the cheap to carry out electrical work on the 拢25 million site.

The tribunal found that the four had been sacked for their activities as members of the Transport and General Workers Union/Electrical and Plumbing Industries Union. It also ruled that the other seven workers were not entitled to compensation for being sacked after going on official strike because they had not given four weeks鈥� notice.

The tribunal ruled that the sparkies are entitled to compensation 鈥渙ver and above an ordinary unfair dismissal award鈥�.
