Slough Council tenants have voted overwhelmingly in favour of setting up an arm鈥檚-length management organisation to manage their homes.
After a four-week ballot of tenants and leaseholders, last Friday鈥檚 result showed 91% of tenants (3283 people) and 86% of leaseholders (195 people) voted 鈥測es鈥 to an ALMO.
The turnout in the poll among tenants was 47%, with 21% of leaseholders voting.
Following the ballot, Slough 鈥 which has 7800 homes 鈥 will receive 拢45m from round four of the ODPM鈥檚 ALMO programme. This was the total amount asked for by Slough.
Slough tenant and resident federation chair Barbara Goldstein said: 鈥淲e hoped for a good result but we didn鈥檛 expect the one we got. It will mean a better quality of life and decent homes.鈥
Goldstein added that a shadow board had been established, but there were still places for one tenant and two independents.
