The digital image management system – designated VDR516-16CD, and developed by Siemens Ðǿմ«Ã½ Technologies Fire and Security Products – is providing security surveillance at prestigious hotels, leisure and conference centres owned by one of the UK’s leading hotel companies, namely Ramada Jarvis.
Installed and commissioned by Vaults Fire & Security, the systems actively protect car parks, general facilities areas, foyers and conferencing areas in each hotel. The system can be linked to 16 cameras, and records complete digital images in JPEG format. Thanks to an improved resolution, these images maintain their quality no matter how many times they’re replayed, and will not degrade with time.
The Siemens system also features an ‘Easy Search’ facility whereby the operator can hone-in on a particular area under surveillance with the simple click and drag of a mouse. Once selected, clicking ‘Play’ on the screen’s virtual keyboard displays images of activity occurring in the area in question. Damage to vehicles, missing articles and personnel moving through access areas can all be found within seconds rather than minutes.
With a hard drive capacity of 160 Gb, the VDR516-16CD can store vast numbers of images. 360 Gb versions are also available to order.
For extended connectivity, the system also boasts an on-board network card and software capable of using Ethernet LAN cable structures.
Meantime, the VDR716-16CD (700 Series machine) also has an ISDN dial-up facility allowing LAN and WAN networking, as well as direct dial connections. The 700 Series software allows simultaneous connection to several VDR700-16CD recorders, allowing the end user a multi-viewing capability if required.
