Following on from recent successes at the Best Factory Awards where they won four prizes, including the Uk`s Best Factory 2005, Saint Gobain Glass UK has once again reaffirmed its position as an industry leader by scooping a National Training Award.
Over 800 applications were submitted and over 220 finalists from 25 industry sectors took part in the final stages of the 2005 awards. The National Training Awards ceremony took place on Tuesday 27th November at Leeds Town Hall. The winners were selected for their outstanding achievements in workplace training and personal development. News presenter, Christa Ackroyd, presented the awards.
As one of three National Training Award winners, the Saint-Gobain Glass UK team impressed the judges with their culture of high productivity and best practice in safety, developed through their training programme. The award also recognizes the hard work that went into preparing, delivering and receiving the training as well as the quality of the application itself.
Sandra Blakeston, Site Project Coordinator, accepting the award on behalf of the company said: ‘We are so proud of our training and development programme and our achievements. We have safely installed an entirely new plant using inexperienced people, successfully launched SGG Planitherm into the market, and improved on the performance of our European counterparts.’
Alan McLenaghan, Site Director, was particularly pleased with the results. He said, ‘A construction project of this magnitude and complexity is difficult enough, but to have achieved it, whilst launching a new product is a fantastic achievement. The commitment of the coater team is an inspiration to us all.’
The other National Training Award winners were: Hunters Property Group BP Chemicals and Hull College.
