The head of Schofield Lothian's transport division, Tim Jones, is being tipped to take on a new management role at the QS and dispute resolution firm

A source close to the firm said: "Jones is looking the favourite from within the business to take over. We're not sure there are any external candidates as yet."

Jones joined the board at the firm after a year's sabbatical doing an MBA at Henley Business School. Since then he has grown the firm's project management operations in the rail sector.

The possible move follows the loss of chief executive Keith Kirkwood, who steps down in May. Managing director Phil Crow will become part-time executive chairman at the end of June. Both announced a "structured withdrawal" from the company at its annual review in January. Jones is also group commercial director at the company.

Kirkwood plans to set up a new company, called Alchemy Business Solutions, after he leaves.
