The use of Pirelli鈥檚 rapid FP Firefix system has cut two-thirds off the installation time at a Somerset installation.

The multifunctional Exchange building at the centre of the Express Business Park is constructed with a steel frame and concrete slabs. For the fire alarm system required, a fixing system that could be used on the different base materials was needed.

Logiscan Security Systems selected Pirelli鈥檚 FP Firefix system and used ITW鈥檚 Spit Pulsa 700E cordless gas nailing tool. Technical director Andrew Humphries explained: 鈥� It was important for us to use a fixing system that would help to support the cables in the event of a fire. Pirelli鈥檚 FP Firefix system provided us with a logical way of getting the cable installed.

鈥淯sing the Pulsa tool we could fire the clips every few inches straight into the concrete. As a result we completed one floor in three days instead of the ten it would have taken using traditional methods.鈥� Cost savings over the four-floor installation were made by the reduced labour time and no need for cable trays.
